Burka is a 581 hectare estate established in 1899 with over 300 hectares under coffee cultivation. Slightly acidic volcanic sandy loams to clay loams and ideal rainfall and temperatures make it ideal for coffee growing. The majority of coffee plants are shade grown and water used in the washing process is drawn from natural springs on the farm.
The farm employs 150 people and focusses attention on improving occupational health and safety standards for their staff. and developing sports and recreation programmes – both important elements in enhancing the quality of life for the estate employees.
